The 25-foot lot accommodates four single-family residences, each reflecting the inherent urban quality of narrow, linear spaces. The primary goal was to maintain a strong interior-exterior connection while creating a spacious and serene living environment within the city. This objective was achieved by designing continuous spaces that extend from property line to property line, offering a quiet respite within the urban core.

The project employs a variety of design strategies to distinguish it from typical speculative infill developments. Special attention was given to the exterior skin of the building, ensuring its aesthetic presence within the surrounding neighborhood.

In the urban context, the wood frame structure features floating exterior skins made of cedar wood and glass. An internal air chamber separates the interior and exterior skins, providing both thermal and acoustic insulation. The combination of glass and wood elements enhances the diverse urban fabric of Jersey City.

The primary materials include a system of horizontal cedar wood slats, glass panels, and painted white aluminum window frame projections. The cedar slats extend across the second and third floors, incorporating wood elements found in the neighboring buildings. These materials help break up the scale of the project and create a balanced palette that seamlessly integrates the residences into the surrounding context.

The 93-Bright project takes a thoughtful approach to sustainability, aiming to create a “green edifice” through various environmentally conscious design strategies.
