Just minutes from Times Square, the design for the lobby of a Residential Co-op draws inspiration from the lights and vibrant energy of the area. The existing windowless lobby lacked sufficient natural light and memorable design elements, which prompted the need for a transformation.
Conceptually, the design team focused on the shape of the lobby and the typical pathways residents would traverse, using this as the foundation to create a dynamic, feature element—the winding wood bands. Each band represents a distinct path, with subtle variations that reveal soft, diffused light from behind, adding depth and interest to the space.
Wood was chosen as a contrast to the intense neon and glass atmosphere of Times Square, introducing warmth and a sense of comfort to the residential lobby, creating a welcoming and intimate environment amidst the surrounding urban bustle.
