The recent rebirth of Long Island City, just minutes from Midtown Manhattan, inspired a unique renovation and addition to a three-story, three-unit building, transforming it into a modern, split-level two-family townhouse with an almost 100% increase in square footage.
The split-level design, which separates the old structure from the new, allows the ground-floor unit to fully utilize the basement level while providing both this unit and the floor above with direct access to a private rear yard. One story up, the second unit spans three split levels, including a rooftop terrace and penthouse with an additional private terrace. A glass atrium above the central stairway in the upper unit floods the space with natural light, while the rear facade features nearly floor-to-ceiling windows on every floor, offering abundant views and sunlight.
The street facade is clad in modern fiber cement panels, while natural wood-framed window protrusions and paneling provide a warm contrast, blending contemporary and traditional elements in a seamless design.
