This single-family residence in Jersey City was thoughtfully designed for an artist specializing in pastel colors and modern abstract art. The concept centers on creating an expansive, column-free interior, offering a wide, flexible space to accommodate the client’s tall paintings and artistic endeavors.

To ensure optimal lighting for the gallery-like environment, clerestory windows and tall, floor-length windows were strategically positioned. These openings filter light with precision, achieving the perfect balance to illuminate the space without overwhelming it, enhancing the display of artwork.

The façade draws inspiration from the Bauhaus movement, embracing a minimalist aesthetic. Plain walls with large, punched openings were carefully placed using Golden Ratio proportions, creating visual harmony for passersby. The simplicity of the design is further emphasized through the use of cost-efficient materials such as stucco, corrugated metal, and metal panels, which together form a clean, understated façade.

This harmonious blend of functionality and minimalist design results in a residence that not only serves as a home but also as a dynamic and inspiring workspace for the artist.
