The new university building in Alcobendas is designed with a focus on sustainability, spatial efficiency, and a deep connection between the space and its users. The structure features a curved strip form that embraces a central public space, incorporating a covered lobby and an open courtyard. This design promotes interaction and integration between indoor and outdoor areas. The building aims for environmental responsibility, incorporating solar panels, thermal insulation, LED lighting, rainwater harvesting systems, and low-consumption fixtures to reduce energy and water use. The use of recycled and locally sourced materials, non-toxic finishes, green terraces, and water bodies further enhances the building’s sustainability and thermal regulation.

Inside, the building offers flexible spaces that cater to academic, administrative, and social activities. It includes 26 classrooms for 900 students, administrative offices, a library, multipurpose spaces, and an auditorium for 1000 people. There are also recreational areas like a café, bookstore, and outdoor zones to foster social interaction and well-being. The design emphasizes natural light, cross-ventilation, and the use of soft colors and natural materials to create a calming environment. Accessibility is ensured for people with disabilities, and the building’s holistic design prioritizes both environmental sustainability and the physical, mental, and social well-being of its users.
