The concept for this design aims to create an open, inviting experience that contrasts with traditional sidewalk sheds by eliminating the typical street-side supports. This innovative approach enhances the pedestrian and business experience by allowing for unobstructed visual connections and the flow of natural light onto the sidewalk.
The structure is composed of steel modules that can be assembled from standardized parts or delivered pre-assembled, providing flexibility in construction. The vertical supports pivot open and connect with adjacent members, simplifying assembly on-site. Once erected, the installation transforms into a sculptural form that supports a functional working surface above.
The vertical supports and the ceiling above the sidewalk are designed to accommodate customizable canvas panels, which can serve various purposes: they can represent the local neighborhood, or offer opportunities for advertising, generating potential revenue. Integrated LED lighting enhances the structure, providing backlighting for the canvas and turning the scaffolding into a dynamic, artful installation that adds visual appeal to the cityscape during nighttime.
